WMHS “Going Green” Officially Launched on Earth Day
On April 22, Earth Day 2008, the Western Maryland Health System officially kicked-off “Going Green,” with a refocused emphasis on recycling, conserving energy and resources, and reducing the amount of trash. Pictured are (top photo, from left) John Sensabaugh (Biomedical), Megan McConnell Brown (Occupational Therapy) and Jim Cook (Information Technology) receiving their complimentary Green Mint Chip Ice Cream from Bill Orndorf from Hershey’s. Shown at Braddock are (bottom photo, from left) Sandy Lippold (Employee Health) and Patty Beem (Laboratory) . The event and treat signified the start of a renewed focus on recycling and was used to educate staff and increase awareness of “Green” efforts. It was also an opportunity to introduce new recycling efforts and place recycling containers throughout WMHS, which has joined with other health care organizations around the country to become a partner in “Hospitals for a Healthy Environment,” or H2E, a national moment for environmental sustainability in health care. Watch for more information on “Going Green” and “Clean-up Days” in the future.
