Dr. Kalafat Joins WMHS Behavioral Health Practice

Naciye Kalafat, M.D., has joined the Western Maryland Health System’s Behavioral Health Services practice with Dr. Michael Ehlers, located on the second floor of Sacred Heart Hospital at 900 Seton Drive in Cumberland.

Prior to coming to Cumberland, Dr. Kalafat completed a year as the chief resident in psychiatry at the University of Virginia Roanoke Valley Psychiatric Medicine Residency Program, where she also did her internship and residency in psychiatry. She is also trained in the use of Electroconvulsive Therapy and the use of Buprenorphine in the treatment of Opioid Addiction.

A native of Turkey, Dr. Kalafat received her medical degree from Trakya Medical School and was a primary care physician in Turkey for eight years. In addition to having a private practice, she also served as the medical director for the Yavuz Sultan Regional Medical Center for three years. She was a volunteer for the Earthquake Relief Initiative in the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey in 1999.

Dr. Kalafat is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association. She and her husband and son reside in Cumberland.
