Seventh Annual WMHS Golf Classic Raises $50,000

The Seventh Annual Western Maryland Health System Golf Classic was held on September 12 at the Cumberland Country Club. A total of 216 golfers raised $50,000 for the WMHS Foundation's mission of providing the best possible health care, state-of-the-art equipment, health care programs and practitioners available. Over $20,000 worth of prizes was given away during the day, with gifts ranging from Rocky Gap Stay-and-Play packages to golf clubs, clothing, and gift certificates - many of which were donated by local businesses. In addition to a day of golf, each golfer received a commemorative wind jacket and a delicious steak dinner, plus beverages and food throughout the day.

Karen Johnson, Foundation Executive Director, credited the 11-member Golf Classic Committee, led by local businessman and chairman Don Moran, and the 4-member Corporate Sponsor Sub-Committee with a great deal of hard work in maintaining this year's income. " It was a great day, and it's a good feeling to be able to put $50,000 toward local health care. All these funds will stay here in our community, providing equipment and support for the programs of WMHS." Ms. Johnson also expressed special gratitude for the many sponsors of the event, led by Founding Sponsor Carl Belt, Inc. Planning has already begun for next year's tournament, which will be held on Friday, September 10.
