Second Annual Derby Day Party Very Successful

A crowd of 175 people, who enjoyed an afternoon of games, fun, food and prizes, attended the second annual Kentucky Derby Party, the signature event of the Western Maryland Health System Foundation. Highlights of the event included watching the Kentucky Derby and the special Corporate Sponsors' Race, where a turtle represented each sponsor. All eyes were focused on the large-screen televisions as local musician John Schroeder trumpeted the call to post. The Derby winner was Smarty Jones and Carl Belt, Inc. took the Corporate Sponsors' Race. Carla Joyner was cited for Most Beautiful Hat, Jill Cline wore the Show Stopper, and Dave Sensabaugh sported the Most Original Hat. In all, event attendees took home over fifty prizes. The proceeds from the event ($9,000) were donated to the Western Maryland Health System Regional Cancer Center's Image Boutique, a place where women who've experienced cancer find hands-on help and encouragement in the form of prostheses and accessories.
