The Importance of Primary Care

A specialist in our Primary Care can assist you with a wide range of health concerns. Even more importantly, the provider gets to know you over the course of several months or years and provides a consistency that benefits long-term health. After a few visits, a primary care provider knows your health issues, which makes it easier to provide personalized care based on your current diagnosis, risk factors, and lifestyle.

An important aspect of Primary Care is working with the same provider for health screenings and management of chronic conditions. Common examples of screenings include depression, obesity, blood pressure, and diabetes. If you are diagnosed with a chronic condition, working with one of our primary care providers to manage it and reduce risks of complications will have a positive impact on your health going forward.

Benefits of UPMC Western Maryland Primary Care Centers

Our Primary Care Centers offer same-day and next-day appointments for both routine and urgent care, as well as phone coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A UPMC Western Maryland healthcare provider is available to speak with you about your health concern any time, day or night. Our providers are able to access your medical records so you will not have to give a health history during the call, decreasing the time it takes to determine what your next steps should be.
