Therapy Services at WMHS

The Western Maryland Health System provides a comprehensive range of therapy services for both inpatients and outpatients. Our team works cooperatively with your physician to coordinate your treatment plan.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a group of services provided by licensed healthcare professionals that help to preserve, develop, and restore physical function. Physical therapy can help improve your range of motion, strength, posture, balance, endurance, and sensation, along with treating muscle and joint pain, inflammation or irritation.

Inpatient Physical Therapy is available to patients during their stay at either Braddock or Memorial Hospitals.

Outpatient Physical Therapy services are located on 2 East on the Memorial Campus as 600 Memorial Avenue in Cumberland. Telephone: 301-723-4242

Wound Therapy

Wound therapy is also provided at the WMHS Physical Therapy Department using state of the art healing techniques. Types of wounds treated include diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and other types of wounds that fail to improve or heal.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is a service provided by licensed and certified health care professional that can help improve your ability to help communicate and/or swallow. Our speech therapists work with patients on speech, which is how sounds are made, and language, which involves understanding and choosing the correct words to use.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a group of service provided by licensed and certified health care professionals that provide preventative and rehabilitative services to help you perform your activities of daily living (such as dressing, personal care, home management, and occupational performance) that have been disrupted by physical injury or illness, developmental problems, social or psychological difficulties or the aging process. These therapists can help you improve your range of motion, strength, posture, balance, endurance, control and sensation, along with reducing pain, inflammation or irritation.

Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema therapy is used to help with the decongestion of swollen legs, arms or other body parts due to the accumulation of fluid. Once the swelling is reduced, compression garment fitting is provided for maintenance.

Who provides therapy services at WMHS?
Our team includes therapists who are specially trained and college educated and are licensed by the state in which they practice. WMHS currently employs over 45 licensed therapists.

Do insurance plans cover therapy services? Most insurance plans will cover therapy services, depending on the individual policy or plan. Some plans may set limitations on how much therapy will be covered.

Where are therapy services provided? Our team of therapists provides services to patients during their stay at Memorial and Braddock Hospital, in our outpatient location on 2 East at Memorial Hospital, in our Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIRU) at Memorial, in the Extended Care Unit at Braddock, and in your home through WMHS Home Care.
