Values in Action Spirit Award Recipient for September - Amy Twigg

An employee since 1972, Amelia "Amy" Twigg was selected as the Western Maryland Health System's Values in Action Spirit award recipient for the month of September. Amy is a unit secretary on the High Level Care Unit at Memorial. She started her employment as a unit secretary on the "old" 2 South and moved to her current position when the new South wing was opened at Memorial in the mid-1980's.

Amy is an excellent employee with a positive, can do attitude and a real passion for her work. She always has a smile on her face and is very friendly and personable. Co-workers describe Amy as the "heart" of the unit and appreciate her kindness and support. She is a team player who goes above and beyond to lend a helping hand whenever she can to the rest of the staff.

Amy has a knack for developing a great rapport with patients and their families. She responds very quickly to their needs and makes sure everything possible is done to ensure their stay in the hospital is a pleasant experience. Co-workers say she is hard working, courteous, helpful, compassionate and very organized.

Amy says she is fortunate to work on a unit with so many wonderful co-workers and she genuinely enjoys interacting with the staff, patients and families. She helps coordinate the Christmas Families project for the unit and is involved in other worthwhile projects. Amy is a great asset to the High Level Care team.

Amy and her husband, Harold, reside in Cumberland and have been married for 23 years. Together, they have five grown children and 11 grand children. Away from work, Amy enjoys sewing and reading, but she says her biggest hobby is spending time with her grand children.
