Nutritional Counseling: What can a Registered Dietitian do for you?

A registered dietitian (RD) can work with you to create a plan just for you and set you on the path to:

- Lower your cholesterol
- Manage your blood glucose levels
- Avoid or minimize complications of chronic disease
- Lose weight
- Eat healthier

Appointments are available with a dietitian for nutritional counseling.  Those who may benefit from this service include individuals who have hypertension, diabetes, obesity, renal disease, or eating disorders, as well as those who want general nutrition information.  Call 240-964-8416 to set up an appointment.

Community Presentations
Health education programs led by health care professionals are offered in the community. Topics include tobacco cessation, stress management, nutrition, physical activity, and health and wellness coaching. Programs are offered for a nominal fee or free of charge at various sites in the community. Times, dates and locations are publicized through the media and the calendar.

Tobacco Cessation
Support is available to individuals who want to quit using tobacco products.  WMHS Community Health and Wellness staff will help develop a personalized plan for quitting and provide the information and resources needed.  Group classes are scheduled upon request.

Living Well With Diabetes Program
Education is the key to being empowered to manage your diabetes, avoid its complications, and achieve optimum health. This diabetes self-management training (DSMT) covers the many aspects of diabetes self-management and glycemic control. It’s an enjoyable day filled with practical information and tools you can use daily to make managing your diabetes easier. Our team of Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE), registered dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, and a physical therapist will be on hand to provide support and expertise.
