On Wednesday, September 25, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the grand opening of UPMC Western Maryland’s Advanced Lakeside Medical Care in McHenry.

Local dignitaries including Senator George Edwards, Delegate Wendell Beitzel, County Commissioners Paul Edwards, Larry Tichnell, and Jim Hinebaugh, and others congratulated the Western Maryland Health System team on their newest expansion. Garrett County Chamber of Commerce diplomats Connor Norman, Julie Mead, Kristin Skeweris, Steve Bortz, and Tim Duck presented UPMC Western Maryland President and CEO Barry Ronan with a First Dollar of Profit certificate.

The new 2,996 sq. ft. facility opened on October 1 and is located at 23789 Garrett Highway in McHenry. The facility has four urgent care exam rooms, a lab and an X-ray room. Plans are also underway to expand into specialty care, beginning with urology this October, and primary care at some point in the future when a provider has been identified.

When its doors opened, ALMC became the fourth urgent care center UPMC Western Maryland operates and the first in Garrett County. “This is truly a special day for us,” said Barry Ronan, UPMC Western Maryland President and CEO. “The opening of the Advanced Lakeside Medical Care will allow us to better serve our Garrett County patients and through our affiliation with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, serve those vacationers, many of which are from the Pittsburgh area who use Garrett County for recreation throughout the four seasons.

“Advanced Lakeside Medical Care will be more than urgent care. It will also provide primary care as well as rotating clinical specialists through the clinic each week. Our staff are thrilled with the facility and excited to begin seeing patients,” he said.
