I am #WMHSProud
"I continue to enjoy nearly 30 years of working in critical care. It is very rewarding. I work full-time in Performance Improvement and on a weekly basis in the Cardiovascular Unit. I really enjoy the hands-on nursing, but I also like what I am able to do behind the scenes to advocate for patients and nurses. Everything is connected. I get to see the implementation of the changes we’ve made to improve patient care." ~ Dan Haines
"Biomedical Engineering, or “Biomed,” repairs and performs preventative maintenance for over 6,600 pieces of medical technology throughout WMHS. Technicians oversee anything from a battery-operated thermometer to complex systems like the Linear Accelerator in Radiation Oncology. Biomeds directly impact patient care and it is my job to make sure the technicians have the parts and resources to complete our tasks on time and accurately." ~ Tom Steele
"My role in Information Technology includes writing software, web applications, automating processes, buiding reports, and anything else I can do to streamline processes throughout WMHS. Recently, I wrote a process for software that automatically populated records for the new Occupational Health portal. The process they were previously using took two to three weeks. The new process I implemented reduced that time to 34 minutes.” ~Thomas Harden
"I have been with WMHS for nearly 40 years and most of my career has been in Community Relations and Marketing. When I talk to people about the services we provide, or see commercials our team helped create, I could not be more proud of the extraordinary medicine available right here in our community.” ~ Kelly Borsuk
“I like to think of myself as being backstage. While not in direct patient care, our patients can’t get the care they need without everything functioning correctly for our employees. It is fascinating to work on the back end of some of the time-keeping, performance and payroll software we use.” ~ Mary Marrale
"I try to make my patients feel comfortable, especially if they are scared or anxious. Something as simple as holding a patient’s hand or explaining what I am doing step by step makes them feel more at ease. Seeing patients come back after their procedure and eventually head home is rewarding. Being a part of that process makes me proud to be a nurse.” ~ Tiffany Mathews, RN
"The incredible teamwork that goes on in the Emergency Department is how we are able to give the high level of care that we do. Each day is different and that keeps me motivated to always be learning. I like the fast-paced environment and feel like I have found my niche in emergency care.” ~ John Skidmore, RN
“I’ve been with WMHS for 39 years, and most of them I have spent in the Emergency Department. If I see someone in the hall or in a room who looks alone or afraid, I don’t think twice about going in and talking to them. While others treat the patient – sometimes I give the hugs. We all work together as a very good team." ~ Mary Walker
"I’ve been able to build some tools for our inpatient rehabilitation unit patients to take home with them that make performing daily activities easier. It’s rewarding to know I am able to use my skills to make a big difference in someone’s day-to-day life. I can confidently say that out of anywhere I have ever worked, WMHS is the best. The Facilities team is second to none.” ~ Mark Wiseman
"I may be the first person people see when coming to the hospital. A simple greeting and a smile can brighten their day. I see a lot of the same patients and staff on a regular basis, and I like to think of us all as a big family.” ~ Ronald “Skeeter” Rice
"As an executive secretary in Administration, I am inspired each day by our leaders and how they are always thinking ‘what can we do next?’ I could have retired several years ago, but my role at WMHS has always been an integral part of my life and my purpose.” ~ Karen Ashby
“I make sure roughly 2,000 people are paid correctly every two weeks. Since a new employee’s first paycheck is always a paper check, I get to welcome each person who joins the WMHS team!” ~ Sharon Amick
“It is rewarding to help the community who has helped us so much along the way. Western Maryland is home.” ~ Justin & Josh Bittner
“In my job I have the opportunity to touch the lives of many patients. I have a passion for helping others.” ~ Heather Leatherman, LPN
"I enjoy making people happy through food. They call me 'the soup man'. I take pride in my work and it’s always great to hear good comments about the food at WMRMC when I am out in the community." ~ Charlie Barnard
"I am Danielle and I am WMHS Proud. When my grandfather had a stroke over 20 years ago, my mother, Debbie Brenneman, advocated for an inpatient rehab unit here in Cumberland. Her actions got the ball rolling for the Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (CIRU). Because of my mothers advocacy and helping to care for my grandfather, I choose a healthcare profession and was able to return to the community to serve the needs of our patients." ~ Danielle Brennan
"I am Karina and I am WMHS Proud. I enjoy and take pride in maintaining a clean environment for our patients and staff." ~ Karina Moffatt
