The CENTER FOR HOPE AND HEALING opened its doors in August 2020 and has already successfully treated 768 individuals. Its unique, home-like setting and familiar staff provide a quiet refuge, nestled in the woods next to our regional medical center here in Cumberland. Real-life stories are displayed across the center’s walls – photographs and paintings that carry powerful testimonies of recovery and victory over substances. Many of these individuals have taken the giant step into long-term treatment and recovery, and dozens more have chosen outpatient care and counseling.
Recently, UPMC staff hosted a patient struggling with mental health, addiction, and grief, who was facing homelessness. The patient reported feeling hopeless and defeated, yet through his stay at the center, was able to prioritize his mental health, gain proper nutrition, and attend to vital health services. Staff also connected him with the community resources he needed, including placement in the YMCA’s Housing Program. He took on the role of mentor and friend to the other patients during his stay and has reported to staff the desire to resume his education and work toward achieving a psychology degree in hopes of giving back one day for the support he received while a patient here. Surely your donations are saving lives!
