Tips for Reducing Stress in Your Life

Stress is a natural part of everyday life.  The holiday season, though, can create additional stress for many of us.  Learning a few tips to reduce stress can help you be happier and healthier this holiday season—and throughout the coming year.

When you feel overwhelmed, slow down and take one task at a time.  Make a list of things you need to do and tackle each one individually.

Meditation can help you cope with stress.  Meditation involves focusing your mind on one thought, word (mantra), object, or mental image for a period of time.  Sit quietly, listen to peaceful music, relax, and try and think of pleasant things or think of nothing.  The goal is to free your mind from stressful thoughts.

Visualization is another useful tip for managing stress.  Take a deep breath and then picture how you can manage a stressful situation more calmly and successfully.

Staying active can help.  Regular exercise is a great way to reduce stress, and it benefits the body as well as the mind.

Take a break from the stressors of life and do something you really enjoy.  Be sure to schedule time to indulge your hobbies or other interests.

Letting go of perfection is also key.  When you expect too much from yourself or others, you may end up feeling frustrated, let down, and disappointed. Remember that each person, including you, has shortcomings. But, you also have beautiful qualities to share with the world.
